PWRDF

St. George’s parishioners are pleased to support the work of the PWRDF.

PWRDF’s is the Canadian Anglican response for emergency relief, refugees, sustainable development, and global justice. And it’s making a difference in the world. Its guiding principle is to listen and learn from partners in its development work. With the support of Anglican parishes across Canada, PWRDF makes financial and human resources available to support partners’ initiatives and to promote knowledgeable actions of solidarity at home and around the world.

The Primate, The Most Rev. Linda Nichols, is a member of the board of directors.

The PWRDF has grown dramatically since its inception following the Springhill mine disaster in 1958, in which 75 men died following an underground mine explosion in Springhill, Nova Scotia. Responding to the needs of affected families eventually led to today's PWRDF, which works on both immediate relief and long-term solutions in partnerships with local community agencies throughout the world. After the current conflict began on October 7, PWRDF responded immediately with an allocation of $30,000 to Al-Ahli. Since then, more than $39,000 has been donated to PWRDF by supporters across Canada for the hospital.

On October 14, Al-Ahli was hit, sustaining damage to the upper floors with Ultrasound and Mammography wards. A second strike on the hospital on October 17 was the deadliest incident, injuring multiple staff including four who required surgeries. In the wake of the incident, the UN Secretary-General called for “an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.”. continue reading here:
