At St George’s, we have two services every Sunday:
8:00 Holy Communion
10:00 Choral Communion
Sometimes we have family services which highlight our children
and which last about one hour.
At Christmas and Easter, we have services that appeal to
children, and services that are traditional. |
 |
|
In the Anglican Church, Holy Communion is also called the Last
Supper, the Holy Eucharist and in some churches the Mass.
-
We welcome all who are
baptized in any Christian tradition to receive the
Communion at St George’s.
-
Some people prefer not to
drink from the common cup of consecrated wine at
communion. If so, when the cup is offered to you, simply
acknowledge the cup by touching the base of the chalice.
For health reasons please do not dip your piece of bread in
the cup.

What to Expect |
|
 |
At
8:00 we have a quiet service of Holy Communion. We use the
traditional service which begins on page 67 of the maroon
coloured Book of Common Prayer. There is no music or
singing, but there is always a short sermon. The service lasts
under an hour. If you prefer a quiet, reflective service, then
you will enjoy the 8AM. |
 |
At
10:00 we have our Choral Communion, which is the main
service each week for St George’s. At this service we use the
Pipe Organ and there is a robed choir. Traditional hymns will be
sung and the choir will sing an anthem. Normally, the service we
use is the Holy Eucharist service found on page 185 of
the green Book of Alternative Services. This service is
written in Modern English, but is based in part upon ancient
Christian texts. On the first Sunday of the month, we use
the traditional Holy Communion service, which is found on
page 230 of the Book of Alternative Services. There
is always a full sermon, which seeks to teach the Scriptures and
apply them to our lives. After the service, we invite everyone
to come downstairs to the parish hall for coffee and tea. |
 |
Sunday School operates at
the 10:00 service. Normally the children gather at the front of
the church during the first hymn for a short prayer and then go
downstairs for their classes. The children do come back into
Church at the Communion. |

Music |
|
Music has always played an important role
in church services. St. George's is no exception. Often times
traditional, sometimes modern, music accompanies and enriches our
celebrations, keeps us in a meditative mood, and helps us pray and
praise God.
Our 10am service is a choral service. This means that we sing hymns and
other parts of the service, accompanied by a choir and our organ.
At St George’s we are very proud of our Casavant Organ which we have had
restored. Our organist and choir director is Jean-Francois Gauthier. He
directs our choir, which meets every Thursday to practice. New singers
are always welcome.
